WILL HE GET THE JOB DONE
Free State Stars former coach now bafana bafana assistant coach, Steve Komphela(kaliwiseonline.com) |
It has being comfirmed that Steve Komphela a former South African premier soccer league coach has being appointed as the new South African national team assistant coach. With his recent achievements at club side Free State Stars I think he is the right man to help bring positive change to the South African national team , with the recent drop in wins and goals at the national team Komphela is for me the man to bring his experience and style of coaching to the benefit of the national team.
For me the appointment of Komphela is a ray of light at the end of the tunnel for Bafana Bafana, however it concerns me that Komphela does not have any silverware on his reputation as a South African coach. At a press conference held in Sandton this past week the current South African national team head coach Pitso Mosimane said that the appointment of Komphela is indeed a good one and he will work well with him by his side. The appointment of Komphela to me shows the following character of (SAFA):
- SAFA is starting to recognise the importance of local coaches
- The national team needs a person with local experience in the managenet of the national team, seeing that the current technical didnt have anyone form South Africa.
The combination of Komphela and Mosimane is a promising one and it is about time Local coaches are given a chance at managing the national team.
Appointing bra Steve as an assistant coach for Bafana is a good idea, looking for his previous games.. he knocked out both the soweto giants Chiefs and Pirates, for me he is the right one to be the assistant coach
ReplyDeleteBut Mxo doesn't it concern you that komphela has never won a cup with any team and that his last campaign with the under 23 national was not a success
DeleteWell i feel that SAFA needs to move away from the message that a coach is the secret miracle ingrediant needed for Bafana to do well. Having a quality coach plays a large role, but the players also have to perform on the field, there is only so much a coach can do
ReplyDeleteThis is to much for the local teams and is going to be tough on the bench as we all know that Steve and Pitso are different when it comes to the style of play on the field.
ReplyDeleteVongani there is no one better suited for the position and the fact that komphela use to be team mates will make it easier on komphela
Deletei also think safa is doing a good thing by giving our local couch a chance to prove himself and his abilities, all the best to him.
ReplyDeleteIt is a good move indeed on the part of SAFA, lets just hope Komphela won't disapoint.
DeleteAppointing local caoches is a good idea as they would know how to deal and communicate better with players, Steve however does have experience but I think he needs to prove it even more in terms of Free State Stars being at least in the top 8 or 4 of the soccer league.
ReplyDeleteThe national South African team (bafana bafana) indeed needed a local coach to assist, hence he knows what is best for the team and can communicate better with the team members.
ReplyDeleteDee looking at Khomphela's track record within the national team squads be it the under 23 or the under 19, would say hes the right man for the job especially after his failed campaign with the under 23 nationa team.
DeleteI agree with Quincy on what he ia saying, but let's not move away from the fact that players do need a coach to guide them. Look what is happening to Kaizer Chiefs after firing their coach mid-season.
ReplyDeleteSizzle my main concern however is do we have players who can produce quality, because when you look at the PSL most players are foreign players, what does that say about South African players.
