ORLANDO PIRATES GOLDEN BOY, BENNI MCCARTTHY

The star-studed South African striker Benni McCarthy has being in great form lately for his team Orlando Pirates. This past weekend he displayed his capabilities when orlando pirates took on their all time rivals kaizer chiefs, he proved that he was a force to be reconned with when he scored two of the three goals that saw orlando pirates claim victory over kaizer chiefs. After such display of character and talent from Benni McCarthy, the question on my mind and on any football fans mind is: is it time to call Benni back into the national team? personally I think it is in the national teams best interest to give Benni another shot in the national team as he has shown a great deal of improvement at orlando pirates. I mean his track record speaks for itself:
- he scored the winning goal in the 2004 uefa champions league final and his team went on to win the final
- his won the portugues league at porto
- recieved the portuguese league golden boot
- played in the portugues super cup
also taking into consideration that he is the only south african player to achieve such things. but as good as he is, the national teams coach, Pitso Mosimane went on soweto live and said that the is absolutely no place for Benni in the national team. Yet from where I am standing there is still a worsening goal-scoring crisis in the national team.

looking at the head coaches comment on wether Benni should be called on to the national team or not from a communications perspective, it might disadvantage the national teams image in various ways such as:
- people will think that the national team does not recognise talent and does not want to put into good use the talent and experience of gifted players
- it might also bring up suspicions that the is favouritism, when players are called up to the national team
- the national team might loose support fron its fans, as they can see that Benni is needed yet the coach feels otherwise
Well I for one can certainly see why Orlando Pirates signed Benni. He has scored some vital goals for the club, however what I want pirates to clarify for us is why they signed Boa-Morte, It was either a very expensive Pr stunt that was not needed or a mistake I believe will prove costly.
ReplyDeleteI think pirates final got the strike.what Benni is doing show experience and I think if he become a leading goal score everyone will consider him. And you know what if pirates win a league this year Benni career will be embraced
ReplyDelete@Trot Benni s a good player with talent and xperience bt do u thnk hs good4de national team@Mr saints it was a waste of money indeed because pirates has enough players who r capable of getting the job done
ReplyDeleteHis performance has improved since he joined Orlando pirates,so i think he deserves another shot.
ReplyDeleteBenni is still a good striker because god gave him a good talent to score goals.I think Pitso Mosimane must consider him as a national team striker because Bafana Bafana have lack of strikers. In order for Bafana Bafana to win Pitso must call him back so that he can score more goals as he did at Orlando Pirates.
ReplyDeleteMarvee I agree with you, beacause for the past five years the national team has being depending on Mphela only as the key striker and look where that has got us. Maybe Benni and Mphela combined will deliver the results needed,if only Pitso could see that
ReplyDeleteBennie is too good for the national team and we need his experience but i understand Pitso's reasons why he is not selecting him, Pitso is building the team and Bennie will be retiring after one or two years. lets allow pitso to do his job.
ReplyDeleteMxo how long has he being building the team,as much as development is good my main concern is, will the team he is building get us to the world cup finals? we cant get to beat Zmbabwe, or better yet will we be able to qualify for the world cup finals with this team he is building
ReplyDeletebenni is the best striker the country has produced to play oversea he has achieved more than any South African player oversea he is also doing well at Pirates he does desrve to be called up again bt he must not be a quick solution we must not forget that we are building for the future as we wont have him in the future we might just well develope top strikers than depend on our senoirs
ReplyDeleteTsholo, I agree with you Benni is the best. The coach should call him up to the national team and since we are all about development, he should make him play alongside players from the development or young players that way he will be beneficial to the team in more ways than one
ReplyDeletei still cant figure out why they would sign Benni firstly he saw no need to play during the world cup, so i dont know why they would run around him. im not disputing the fact that he is an awesome player but thats my 2 cents.
ReplyDeletelebo I here you but we need him now more than ever. our national team could use a man of his talents, we only rely on one striker who is currenly slacking in performace at club side Mamelodi sundowns
