WILL IGESUND TURN THINGS AROUND

It is no secret that the South African national football team has being struggling and all eyes are on the new Bafana Bafana head coach Gordon Igesund to try and turn things around for the better.

Gordon and the Bafana Bafana boys are faced with a tough task ahead of them as they are scheduled to take part in two international friendly matches. They will take on Mozambique on 11 September at the Mbombela stadium, in what to me seems as a practise match as they prepare to take on their toughest challenge thus far as they will go head to head with former FIFA world cup champions, Brazil in their last friendly match which will take place in Sao Paolo.

All eyes are on the Brazil friendly as this will be a tough challenge for both the coach and the players, as Brazil has being in top form lately. My concern is whether or not the Bafana Bafana squad is ready for such a task and whether Gordon Igesund can handle such a tough  task.
At this point I do not think that Bafana stand a chance against the Brazilians.

WILL HE GET THE JOB DONE

Newly appointed Bafana head coach,Gordon Igesund (sundayworld.co.za)
There are a couple of challenges I think Gordon will face as head coach, challenges such as:
  • The media is forever attacking the South Aafrican national football team and this might make it hard for him to do his job
  • People have lost hope in the national team, Gordon will have to convince fans that the national team is worth supporting
  • He is working under pressure as his contract will be terminated if he does not make it to the Afcon semi-finals

  1. This will be tough for SA but i know they can really do well. even though we they have such a bad record on the soccer field they can do their best and maybe this couch can make a difference. I am not good when it comes to sport but i think that a couch cannot make a difference in a team that will not work together and change for the better of SA. The couches will keep getting fired and changed but what if the problem really lies with the players?

    1. Well Michelle like you said they can only win if it is a team effort and in soccer it is percievd that if the team is not doing well then the person leading the team is not doing a very good job in this case the head coach, hence you find that our national team keeps changing couches.

  2. This is a trick task for him as the national team coach and his is working under a lot of pressure.SAFA made it clear in his contract that he should deliver their expections and is a mountain to climb for him.If the boys that he will select are determine to give their best to the nation he can turn things around.

    1. His contract makes his job even harder for him, but lets hope he will pick a determined team to take to brazil and maybe be victorious.

  3. You know what i think sometime is not about the coach the players are not active. Today the boys are up on there game than the next they they dont have energy. The new Bafana Bafana head coach Gordon Igesund might turn the things around on paper he he has the good record of winning and we know last season he left Swallows on the good run.

    1. I agree with you Themba, most of our national players lack motivation, but I have faith that Gordon will pick a descent squad.

    1. Clive I think we should be looking at experiece here, seeing that our previous coach Pitso Mosimane was black and no success came out of his leadership.

  5. Given that he has experience and keeping in mind his success with Swallows I believe that he can turn things around for SA and with the right squad I think he can go as far as beating Brazil in the upcoming friendly match

    1. Gordon does have the experience I agree, but he has a tough task ahead of him seeing that he has to pick up where Pitso Mosimane left off. And this will not be easy as he is also under a lot of pressure from both SAFA and the nation.

  6. I do believe that Igesund will change things because of the experience he has will be an advantage for him to change our team.

    1. Let's hope he will Marvee, because at the moment I have lost all faith in our national team.He has to prove he can by winning the two upcoming friendly matches, one of which seems like an impossible task from where I'm standing.

  7. I think that beyond the coach, we should also take a critical look at the players. They have to step up their game and prove themselves worthy to represent the country. Bafana get more support than any other national team in the country, so they need to deliver more

  8. I think he is a great coach and yes he might turn things around but the players must also come to the party because he can do everything from tactics to changing players at the end of the day they are the ones playing on the pitch
